To transform the PHX region into a major hub of smart city technology driven by collaborative civic innovation.
What We Do
We foster large scale local entrepreneurship around our city's most pressing urban issues. We drive civic innovation through the progress of Smart City technology. We build better, more sustainable and more resilient cities and improve the overall quality of life for all citizens by accelerating the adoption and implementation of smart city solutions.
What We've Done
Over the past year and a half, the Institute for Digital Progress has worked tirelessly to design and implement an ongoing initiative that promotes and accelerates technological innovation in Phoenix. From our personal experience, we have seen the limited ability for hackathons and other civic tech initiatives to have long-term, sustainable outcomes. While good for short-lived publicity, previous initiatives have left us wanting. Our community needed an effort that could truly drive change. One that would foster large-scale entrepreneurship around urban issues, both locally and globally. Thus, the Phoenix Smart City Hack was developed. The competition was designed to be a sustainable, year-round innovation program to challenge our residents to create technology that will improve our cities. By consolidating the aspects of hackathons, app development and collaborative innovation into one competition, we have successfully created a program that empowers citizens and helps Phoenix turn its urban challenges into great opportunities.
